What is Logo Digitization?
Digitizing is the process of converting a logo into a file that an embroidery machine can scan and interpret. For example, your logo is converted from a JPG or PNG file to an embroidery file — typically a .DST file.
Your logo is turned into an embroidery file using digitizing software. You can use this software yourself or you can outsource it to an embroidery professional.
From there, an artist will plot the points of your logo and determine how dense the stitches should be.
The artist will also decide the type of stitches to use. Once the machine reads the file, it begins stitching the logo on a piece of clothing.
The final result is a beautiful and crisp embroidered logo.
How Much Does Logo Digitization Cost?
The cost of a digitized logo varies depending on size and stitch count. Fees typically average $20 to 30 but some can cost as much as $100. Read on for specific prices from Say It With Stitches!
What Are the Benefits of Logo Digitization?
Now that you know the basics of logo digitizing, let’s look at a few reasons why you should consider getting your logo embroidered:
It’s Long Lasting
Printed logos on clothing look neat at first. But after a while, they fade and wash out. Embroidered logos, on the other hand, don’t deteriorate. It becomes a part of the fabric. The strong thread holds up and keeps your logo in place.
Boosts Brand Awareness
One of the reasons why businesses digitize logos is because it keeps their brand visible. Putting a boldly printed embroidered logo on apparel or accessories ensures that your business stays at the forefront of people’s minds.
Unified Company Culture
Having something to sport in your business or company creates a sense of unity within your business. If your company’s apparel has a beautiful logo embroidered on it, your team will wear it with pride.
Makes for Great Fundraising Items
Organizations love embroidered items because they make logos noticeable. So, this makes embroidery pieces perfect for fundraising. They help raise awareness for your cause and encourage people to donate.
Memorable Gifts
Embroidery artwork is a beautiful gift that anyone will appreciate. Whether it’s a client or a loved one, an embroidered piece is a thoughtful gesture and an excellent way to advertise your business at the same time.
What is Vector Art?
Vector art is digital artwork created using mathematical algorithms in illustration software.. These algorithms make up tiny graphics like points, lines, curves and shapes that come together to make up the vector artwork. Think ‘Connect The Dots’, but digital.
They were invented by American computer scientist Ivan Sutherland in 1963 on the early version of CoreIDRAW. Vector graphics first made an appearance in early beloved arcade games like Asteroids and Pacman, but were quickly overtaken by pixel-based raster graphics.
However, vector art made a comeback in the advertising world due to their scalable nature. Ad collaterals like billboards and business cards require images to be blown up or shrunk down, and vector graphics fulfill that need while retaining the high resolution of the image. Today, vector art plays a major function in app and web development, graphic design and animation.
The Science Behind High-Resolution Vector Art
Designers would take vector over rasterized images any day. While rasterized images are great for creating rich works of art due to having pigment in every single pixel, vectors are scalable. Having a beautiful rasterized image is worthless if you’re unable to scale it without distortion or pixelation..
So, what makes vector art so scalable?
As opposed to pixels in rasterized images, vectors display color with scalable color polygons that use dynamic sections, which yields picture perfect lines and colors that don’t get altered. Moreover, the formulaic geometry of vector images make them perfect for scaling up and down without losing their shape.
The Process of Creating Vector Art
Vector art is commonly designed with illustration softwares like Adobe Illustrator. These softwares can act as a handy tool in the arsenal of a designer, or even as a main medium of art for illustrators. Designers might choose to use more design-driven software that pays attention to other structural elements such as Adobe Photoshop.
Regardless of the designer’s preference, they often go back to illustration software to convert JPG files into vectors. After saving the vector files, they will then be inserted back into the software that is being used.
There is a distinct difference between designers and illustrators. While designers focus on the composition of many elements in their work, illustrators are more art-focused. They create vector illustrations, which are purposed by designers in a larger scope of work. In the media, advertising and marketing industry, vector illustrations are often purchased as royalty-free images from websites such as Unsplash or Shutterstock
